ABOUT Warren Ediger

I am an adult ESL specialist and former college and university instructor who lives in southern California.

Recent experience

For almost 10 years, I taught advanced students in a large adult ESL program sponsored by our local high school district. Many of those years we had more than 1,000 students. In addition to teaching, I also:

  • mentored new teachers;
  • wrote literature units for intermediate and advanced ESL classes;
  • presented teacher-training workshops;
  • served as the chairman of the curriculum committee, which evaluated and reorganized the entire ESL program using a technology-based method called curriculum mapping.

I have also served as an adjunct graduate instructor and guest lecturer at Biola University in La Mirada, CA.

In 2006 I created Successful English – a web site and Internet-based tutoring service. I have worked mostly with students who are preparing for tests, such as the TOEFL, TOEIC, GMAT, and GRE, and with professionals and business people who need English for international business.

What others have said about my work

In recent years, other educators have commented on my work in letters of reference. Here are some of the things they said.

Other experience

I began my teaching career at a small college – now Grace University – in Omaha, NE. While there, I served as the head of the communications department and taught courses in mass and personal communications.

I also have considerable experience in consulting, public speaking, musical performance, and writing and editing.

Education

I have earned two masters degrees – in music and education – from Biola University in La Mirada, CA, and completed additional graduate work in communications at the University of Nebraska/Lincoln. The Capstone (final) Project for my masters degree in education – Adult Second Language Instruction: A New Paradigm View – was given the Capstone of the Year award by the Biola University Education Department at Biola University.

My undergraduate studies included majors in music, journalism, and biblical studies as well as minors in English, psychology, and sociology.

In one sentence

Someone recently asked me to write a one-sentence description of myself. This is what I wrote:

I am a student of many things, but mostly language, learning and teaching, and technology; a mentor-teacher, a writer; a musician; a father and husband; and creator of successfulenglish.com.
